Cornetist/trumpeter Dave Robinson has played and toured with the top traditional jazz and swing bands in the Washington DC area for over 30 years. He is the founder of the Traditional Jazz Educators Network, and director of the Traditional Jazz Curriculum Project in partnership with the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park, the Smithsonian Institution, the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE), and the National Endowment for the Arts. Since 1988 Dave has directed the award-winning Capital Focus Jazz Band youth group, which has toured thoughout the U.S. and Europe. Dave is the jazz education columnist for the Mississippi Rag.
He is also a founder and past president of the American Federation of Jazz Societies, has produced the Smithsonian's Jazz Concert Series, and has hosted a weekly coast-to-coast traditional jazz program on XM Satellite Radio. Dave helped launch Sacramento's annual Traditional Jazz Youth Band Festival, in which he serves as a clinician. Dave's personal archive of traditional jazz recordings, books, videos and music is one of the largest in the country.
